Modern Vision Care

Specialty Vision Care treats all types of vision disorders.  Experience the newest treatments for your vision--especially if you think your vision is still not good enough with current prescriptions, have unusual vision changes, had vision surgery or suffer with severe vision problems. Irregular corneas, Keratoconus, LASIK, PRK, RK, Corneal Transplants and Astigmatism are all evaluated using the latest in  Waveform Corneal Mapping technology.  Non-surgical vision improvement can be done using overnight  Corneal Refractive Therapy-- for people with moderate vision problems including children with frequent vision changes (more information below).

The Eye Exam

Your eyesight is analyzed with auto-refraction to precisely determine your prescription. This helps you take the guess out of deciding between two or more lens choices.  Initial exams also include eye muscle evaluation, 3-D vision tests, color vision, and a complete exam of your external and internal eye structures. Tests for Glaucoma and Cataracts are also included.

OptoMap 'Plus' Retinal scans are available for people who prefer no dilation drops.  The newest i-Vue CT Scan may also be used to look at the back layers of nerve tissue to detect for subtle changes affecting your eyesight.

OVERNIGHT CORNEAL REFRACTIVE THERAPY (CRT)

Corneal changes shown below as vision is improved with Overnight Refractive Therapy. Upper left shows orange color (Astigmatism), Lower left blue-green color shows flattening of Cornea correcting vision, right picture shows maximal corneal change to correct vision (dark blue).

FYI: Overnight Refractive Therapy is FDA approved for people with mild to moderate distance vision issues. Individual needs are determined at exam time. This is not approved by the FDA for treating Keratoconus or any other corneal disease.

Surgical Vision Correction

The front surface of your eyes, the Cornea, provides the major focus for your eyesight. Another part, the Human Lens, also helps in focusing. Generally, it is these parts, that change as we age--causing vision to blur.

New advances in vision surgery are giving people the opportunity to  see again, perhaps with little or no need for eyeglasses.  Cyrstalens implants actually replaces the lens inside your eye, and can help focus both far and near.

Corneal Crosslinking helps stop Corneas from thinning, thus correcting Keratoconus. Currently, the FDA is reviewing this for approval in the United States, but is available in other countries.

Corneal transplants appear to be going 'synthetic' once FDA approved.  If a scar or severe distortion is causing vision loss, perhaps simply replacing your Cornea will restore vision.

A select group of eye surgeons, with various specialties, provide vision surgery. Coordinated care is managed through The Kurtin Eye Center, Plano, Texas.
